Jenni Hadfield
Coaching Assistant & Funetics Coach

Hi, I’m Jenni, and I’m delighted to share my sporting journey with you.

Originally from Aberystwyth on the west coast of Wales, I made York my home 18 years ago after completing university.

Sports, especially netball, have been a significant part of my life since childhood. Under the guidance of my mum and a fantastic local coach, I found my passion for netball and secured my spot as a centre court player. At the age of 16, I proudly played for the adult county team and later represented the Welsh Under 19 team, creating unforgettable memories as I stood proudly singing the national anthem before matches.

My dad’s love for running and swimming influenced my fitness routine, and I enjoyed track and field events, particularly the 200m, representing my county and regional area.

Growing up in Aberystwyth, where our athletics club focused on longer distances due to the absence of a track nearby, I embraced the challenge of cross-country running during the winter months. Despite not being a natural long-distance runner, my determination paid off as I contributed to a cross-country team that triumphed in the Gwent League, a significant achievement for our small town against larger cities.

My athletic journey continued at Loughborough University, where I participated in two London marathons, even engaging in a memorable sprint finish against a Womble!

Along the way, I earned a NVQ level 2 exercise to music qualification and pursued my teacher training upon moving to York.

For the past 16 years, I’ve been a reception teacher, serving as the PE lead for the majority of that time, with a Level 5 subject specialism in PE.

My passion lies in promoting children’s physical activity and emphasising the broader benefits of sports, such as cooperation, resilience, teamwork, self-belief, respect, and communication. As a member of Vale of York for the past three years, along with my two children, I’ve experienced a warm welcome from every club member.

Connecting with the Under 11 group on Mondays has been a highlight, and I’m excited to apply my funetics training with them. It’s so reassuring as a parent to see my own children thriving within this nurturing environment and I look forward to them continuing their sporting journey with the club.
