Harry Bromley, Athletics Coach Sprints at Vale of York Athletic Community

Harry Bromley
Athletics Coach Sprints

Hi, I’m Harry. I’m currently studying for a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Sports and Exercise Science at the Carnegie School of Sport, Leeds Beckett University.

I’ve been involved in sport from a very young age, with experience across football, cross country, parkrun, kickboxing and track and field. I’ve competed at regional and national level, including the English Schools Cross Country Championships and the Yorkshire County Track and Field Championships. In the triple jump, I’ve achieved a bronze, gold and silver medal across three consecutive years.

My athletics journey with Vale of York began when I attended the very first Vale of York Athletic Community summer camp in 2021 — and I’ve never looked back! I enjoy everything athletics and running has to offer and love taking part in a wide range of disciplines to develop as a well-rounded athlete. My events include the long jump, triple jump, 400m, 800m, sprints and high jump. I regularly compete at athletics meetings and represent the club in the West Yorkshire Track and Field League.

For me, athletics isn’t just about winning; it’s about setting personal goals, achieving personal bests and continually looking for ways to improve. I really value working alongside my coaches to develop my performance and enjoy the camaraderie within the club. One of the things I love most about Vale of York is how athletes of all ages work together, encourage one another and celebrate each other’s progress.

Alongside my own athletics, I’ve also developed a real passion for coaching. The club has supported and encouraged me throughout my coaching journey, starting as a Funetics Leader before progressing to Assistant Coach. In summer 2025, I qualified as an England Athletics Coach, specialising in sprint coaching.

I now coach sprint sessions with Vale of York and the University of York, as well as coaching at Leeds Beckett University under Olympian Laura Weightman. I enjoy coaching athletes across all age groups, from Funetics and junior athletes through to university students, seniors and Masters athletes. My long-term ambition is to continue progressing through the coaching pathway, sharing my knowledge and experience and helping to develop the next generation of athletes.

I also enjoy the challenge of endurance running. This year, I’ve been part of the Vale of York senior endurance team competing in the York & District Road Race League 10K. I’m committed to developing my muscular endurance and aerobic capacity, with a current 5K personal best of 16:07. My next goal is to break the 16-minute barrier and run a sub-16-minute 5K.

In 2026, I also competed in the Brass Monkey Half Marathon, finishing in 1:13:32 and currently ranking 17th in the UK. I’ve also competed in the Great North Run Half Marathon while raising money for charity. I ran my first Great North Run at the age of 17, and 2026 will be my third time taking on the iconic event.

Whether I’m competing, training or coaching, I’m passionate about athletics and the opportunities it creates. I’m grateful for the support I’ve received from Vale of York and look forward to continuing my journey as both an athlete and coach, while helping others discover and achieve their own potential.
