Clare takes on the Great North Run for the ME Association

Clare Bromley with her arms raised at the Great North Run

Update, 15 September: Clare completed her first-ever half marathon in 2:58, just 21 weeks after major abdominal surgery. With jelly babies, incredible crowd support, and a lift from Harry and Richard in the final 400m, she crossed the line to hear “Well done Clare, you’ve just run the best half marathon”, and the emotion poured out. She’s raised an incredible £1,000 for the ME Association.

Harry, Clare’s son, ran a course PB of 1:19:11, smashing his sub-80 minute target after a year that included a stress fracture and months out injured. He’s also raised over £1,000, for St Mary’s Church, Selby.

With just a week to go, Clare Bromley’s final month of training for the AJ Bell Great North Run hadn’t gone entirely to plan. Shin splints meant swapping her last tapering runs for the gym, resting with ice packs, stretching and plenty of ibuprofen gel to give her legs the best chance of getting her around on Sunday.

Clare ran for the ME Association, and for her daughter Isobel, who she says amazes her every single day with her strength, courage and determination.

Her final words before the big event were, “I’m feeling very nervous and very excited for Sunday, but fingers crossed I can get around!”

If you would like to sponsor Clare and support the ME Association, every donation, no matter how big or small, is hugely appreciated.
