Two personal bests at Wistow, and third M55 at Knutsford

Three Vale of York runners took on Selby Striders’ Wistow 10K on Sunday 27 September. Conditions were about as good as late September offers, not too hot, with one light shower, but the Lordship wind was ever present.

Steve Middup led the club home in 43:15, second in the M60 category and 41st overall, for an all time 10K personal best. Daniel Wigglesworth ran 49:11 and Colette Brear 53:52, with a personal best for Daniel too.

Steve’s 10K came a fortnight after his silver at the Vale of York Half.

After my half marathon success a couple of weeks ago, on a whim, I decided to grab one of the last spots in the local Wistow 10k. So glad I did. Managed to smash out 43:15, 2nd place M60 and all time 10k PB!! Weather conditions were good, although windy in places. Really happy with my even pacing, splits.

Two races in a fortnight, two results like that. Consistency in training is key, and Steve’s splits are the proof of it.

And at Knutsford

The same morning, Ian Martin was over in Cheshire for the Barclays Knutsford 10K, run from his old workplace where he spent many a lunchtime training. He finished in 38:32 for third M55, in what was a high class field. The British F50 record for 10K was broken at the same race, in a mind-blowing 34:57.
