Yorkshire Marathon 2026: a club record and a thirteen minute PB

Six Vale of York runners took on the Yorkshire Marathon and the Yorkshire Ten Mile on Sunday 18 October. One came home with the club record, another took thirteen minutes off his best, and another was second in his age category.

New club marathon record

Dan Lloyd finished in 2:55:46 to set a new men’s club marathon record. The club’s previous best was 2:59:15 set by Ian Martin at Boston in 2022 and matched by Dan at Yorkshire last year. Two men, two races, three years apart, set on different continents, but exactly the same time. The record is now Dan’s alone, by three and a half minutes. It joins the rest of our road, parkrun and distance records.

Thirteen minute PB for Neil on his M50 debut

Neil Ryan ran 3:14:07 on his first marathon as an M50, and took thirteen minutes off his all time personal best. Neil used a custom VDOT based plan and followed it to the letter, which is proof that a structured plan and a health-first approach work.

Another silver for Steve

Steve Middup came home in 3:35:12 and finished second M65, not for the first time in that category.

It was his 29th marathon and his 11th at Yorkshire, and he finished twelve seconds off his goal time. His own verdict: “Went out hard but pacing dramatically dropped in the second half,” with more long runs on the list for next time. The splits back him up, 1:39:00 at halfway and rather more than that coming home.

He goes again in London in April.

Teseo Poma completed the marathon in 3:22:20, after a quick first half of 1:25:55, which tells you he went looking for it rather than sitting back.

Ten miler

Daniel Ley ran 1:09:43 off a five mile split of 35:16, so this was a well-paced effort. Damian Scantlebury finished in 1:33:50 and continues his fitness journey.

And one more sub three

Dan Torr, second claim with us and running in Ackworth colours, went under three hours on his marathon debut in 2:58:44. Two Dans under three hours in one month is not a bad return for the two University of York students.

And the one that got away

Ian Martin was a DNF at York. He has written about why, and about his attempt at another sub three hour marathon at 60 here. Now that the club record has moved to 2:55:46, Ian’s A goal has moved with it.
