University of York student Cameron Bryson ran 4:21.74 at the Monument Mile Classic at the University of Stirling on Saturday 5 September, and set a new Vale of York club record.
Brave run
The Monument Mile is not a normal track meeting. Now in its ninth year, it runs more than thirty consecutive mile races back to back at Stirling, with every field seeded on time so that nobody is racing alone and nobody is out of their depth. It sold out again this year.
Watch the race
The full stream is over five hours long. This starts at Cameron’s race.
A long way back
Cameron has been building steadily for a while. He set a 5k personal best of 15:33 in 2025, described at the time as his comeback continuing, and he was among the club’s leading senior men through last winter’s cross country, finishing behind only Tom Fell in the league.
A mile is a different kind of effort to a 5k or a cross country race. It is short enough to hurt from early on and long enough that there is nowhere to hide. To take the club record over it is a proper piece of running.
Congratulations Cameron.
