A gift of books and the start of a library

Running books donated by Kevin Moseley on a table at the Selby Fun Day, with Vale of York members and children standing behind

At the end of Selby Fun Day, alongside the medals and the marquee, there was a table nobody expected: a library of running books, donated to the club by Kevin Moseley.

Kev is one of ours and he knows what it is to lose the thing you love and find your way back to the people around it. In September 2025, Kev fell critically ill at home and spent more than a week in an induced coma, treated for viral encephalitis and pneumonia. It left him with lasting brain damage: he cannot walk without support, uses a wheelchair, and lives with significant memory loss. He has written about it himself, movingly, on this site, including the day last March when he and Janice stopped at a PECO relay at Middleton Woods, his first contact with the running community since he became ill, and was met with hugs, handshakes and people who simply would not let him feel forgotten.

Kevin has selflessly chosen to hand over his running books to the next generation of the club, and this says something about him that is worth putting on record.

The books will form the start of a coaching library for the club and are temporarily with Ian while we work out a suitable permanent home for them. The titles will be listed on the website soon and will be free for any member to borrow. If you’d like to take one to read, get in touch.

Thank you, Kevin. From all of us.
