A month of marathons

Huge congratulations and respect to the Vale of York community athletes who have completed marathons in Boston, London and Manchester in the last few weeks.

Sam Robinson – a long-serving and popular club member – ran Manchester on 19 April. The day after, Steve Middup ran the oldest marathon in the world, Boston. Steve has now completed four of the original world marathon series, with two more to complete to gain the coveted Six Star medal.

A full Vale of York crew enjoyed the events across London marathon weekend.
Archie Hadfield ran for the Yorkshire and Humber team in the mini marathon championships, while Megan Sanderson took on part of the iconic course as part of her school team.

On Sunday, Ian, James, Beverley and Louise all completed what became a truly historic race.
Ian : “This was my fourth or fifth London Marathon since 1994 and it was hotter and bigger this year than ever before. The support on the course was out of this world and to be running in the same race as the first ever sub 2 marathon made for a very special day indeed. It was a case of nice and steady for me to hopefully secure my Good For Age place for 2027 so I can come back next year for some more.”
James: “It went well and took me 5hrs 3 minutes. The first half was fine but at London Bridge it got tough!”
Beverley: “Oh jeez, it was so hard! Very hot!
5.05 so didn’t go to plan but an extraordinary experience and would recommend Valers to enter the ballot.”
Louise: “I was a guide runner for a runner from Special Olympics athletes where I work. We raised over £25000 as a team! Our time was 5.31.”

We want to celebrate the achievements of our whole community. If you’re taking on a challenge, please let us know.
